For those tired to paying big bucks to the cable companies there’s a new idea that’s growing in popularity and functionality.. It all falls under the umberella of the term “Cut to Cord” which refers to cutting the cord to the cable or satellite company.
The options come in a few main flavors as follows:
- OTA: (Over The Air) – This goes back to the days before cable, where you put up an antenna and attached it to your TV. After paying for the antenna & TV things got pretty cheap as in free. Today’s new antennas are a thing of beauty and priced nicely. You can even add a DVR (Digital Video Recorder) to record your favorite shows to watch at a later time. One time hardware cost here.. No monthly subscriptions, just like it was before the advent of cable.
- Streaming – This method provides content to your TV over your internet connection. No cable/satellite company required. You will soon discover that most content comes at a more modest cost than the cable companies Typically in the $10 to $50 per month range. If you already pay for Amazon prime you get their programming at no additional cost. You do need a smart device to get the streaming to your TV. Most net TVs & DVD players now come “smart” and can receive streaming. You can get a variety of additional devices to get the streaming on your TV.
